
Fatal collision in Queens involving two pedestrians and a driver: NYPD
A tragic incident occurred in Astoria, Queens on Tuesday morning when a car crashed into a food truck, resulting in the deaths of two pedestrians, one of whom was a 70-year-old man, along with the driver. The accident took place near 42nd Street and 19th Avenue at around 8:35 a.m. An 84-year-old man driving a 2010 Corolla hit two pedestrians outside a coffee cart before colliding with a Volvo sedan making a U-turn. The owner of the coffee cart, Giancarlo Caruso, narrowly escaped being struck himself as he was just one foot away when the accident occurred. Sadly, a 42-year-old pedestrian died at the scene, while the 70-year-old pedestrian and the Corolla driver succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The Volvo driver was unharmed. Witnesses reported that the Corolla driver was speeding and ran through a stop sign prior to the crash. The coffee cart owner described the harrowing scene, with one pedestrian being thrown into the Corolla upon impact. The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and an investigation is ongoing.
