Fatal collision in Fairfax County results in one fatality and injuries to others

A fatal crash took place on I-66 West in Fairfax County on Aug. 2, resulting in one death and minor injuries for others involved. Virginia State Police arrived at the scene of the crash in the evening and found a Nissan pickup truck in flames on the express lanes' left shoulder. Tragically, the driver of the Nissan was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations suggest that the Nissan was stationary in the left lane when it was rear-ended by a Honda SUV, causing it to cross into the express lanes. The westbound express lanes were closed following the incident, but traffic flow was maintained via the Route 286 service road. The driver and passengers of the Honda sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Fairfax Hospital. The crash is still being investigated, and charges are pending.
