
Fatal collision during Glendale chase involving suspected stolen vehicle
A man tragically passed away on Tuesday night following a brief chase with law enforcement in Glendale, as confirmed by authorities. The Glendale Police Department shared that the incident began when officers tried to pull over a suspected stolen vehicle near Acacia Avenue and Chevy Chase Drive around 11:15 p.m. The driver failed to comply with the stop and a pursuit ensued. Disregarding traffic signals, the man drove east on Acacia and north on Verdugo Road before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Verdugo and Wilson Avenue just minutes or a mile into the chase. Subsequently, his vehicle struck a utility pole, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Identified as 51-year-old Shawn Justin Towne from Los Angeles, the man was on parole and had an outstanding warrant. Thankfully, no other individuals suffered harm in the incident, and further details were pending release.
