Fatal collision claims life of Fremont resident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Fremont Post is looking into a deadly single-vehicle accident that took place around 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday on U.S. 20, just west of Ohio 51 in Washington Township, Sandusky County. The incident involved a 2013 blue Nissan Versa driven by Ernesto Chavez, 44, from Fremont, which crossed the center median and went off the north side of U.S. 20. Chavez hit a mailbox and a barn before coming to a stop. Chavez sadly lost his life in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-year-old boy who was a passenger in the right rear of the vehicle sustained severe injuries and was taken to a medical facility where he was reported to be in stable condition as of late Wednesday. Both Chavez and the child were wearing seat belts during the accident. The authorities are still investigating the crash.
