Fatal car crash onto light rail tracks Tuesday morning
A fatal incident occurred when a car drove off a ramp onto light rail tracks in Lone Tree near the C-470 and I-25 interchange, as reported by South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR). The car became wedged between the light rail train and a wall. Emergency crews are working to move the train to free the pinned car. The crash, which occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, involved a light rail operator and one passenger on the train, both of whom are uninjured, according to SMFR. Due to the ongoing investigation, access from eastbound C-470 and northbound I-25 is closed, with detours available at Lincoln Avenue. RTD will use shuttle buses to replace over 15 trips impacted by the crash, resulting in the suspension of E-line trains between Evans and RidgeGate, and R-line trains between Peoria and RidgeGate. The investigation is being handled by the Lone Tree Police Department and Colorado State Police, who were observed gathering evidence at the crash site.
