Fatal car accident on I-70 in Wayne County
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking into a tragic incident that caused one fatality and left another person injured. This occurred at around 1:03 a.m. early Sunday morning on Interstate 70 eastbound near the 137-mile marker. Law enforcement officers discovered a small passenger vehicle flipped over on its roof on the south side of the interstate. As per an official statement from the Sheriff’s Office, indications point to the vehicle veering off the road, colliding with a steep embankment, and overturning. Unfortunately, the driver was thrown from the car during the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is anticipated to make a full recovery. The individuals mentioned they were returning home from work when the vehicle suddenly swerved right, leading to the crash. Interstate 70 eastbound had to be shut down for about three hours while authorities carried out their investigation and cleared the area.
