Fatal car accident near Galena
A tragic incident occurred on West Stagecoach Trail near Galena, Illinois, resulting in the death of one person after their vehicle crashed and caught fire. According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal accident took place close to Burton’s Bridge around 9:26 a.m. The authorities arrived at the scene following a 911 call to find a Chevrolet Avalanche ablaze in the roadway. Despite efforts to extinguish the fire, a single occupant was found inside the vehicle. Initial indications point to the vehicle traveling westbound and failing to negotiate a curve, veering off the right shoulder into a ditch without any signs of braking. The Avalanche collided with a tree at a high speed, became airborne, landed in the ditch, and was hurled back onto the road, finally coming to rest facing the opposite direction where it ignited. Although the crash was not witnessed, witnesses reported the vehicle was already fully engulfed. The driver’s identity has not been disclosed pending formal identification and family notification, with the investigation ongoing.
