Fatal bicycle accident in Petaluma involving vehicle
Authorities from the Petaluma Police Department reported that a cyclist tragically lost their life in a collision with a vehicle on Wednesday. The incident occurred at the intersection of S. Ely Boulevard and Capistrano Drive around 3 p.m., prompting response from officers. Despite arriving promptly, officers confirmed that the cyclist had passed away due to their injuries. According to a police lieutenant, both the cyclist and the driver were heading northbound on S. Ely Blvd. at the time. The individuals involved, identified as male, have not had their ages disclosed. Officials stated that alcohol or drugs do not seem to have contributed to the crash. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is assisting with the investigation. A photo from the scene showed an Acura SUV with a damaged windshield and a shoe on its roof, near a covered body and a fallen bicycle. The authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
