Fatal Aurora Crash Involves RTD Bus
A tragic incident took place in Aurora on Thursday evening when a Regional Transportation District bus was involved in a crash that claimed the life of a woman and left an infant with serious injuries. The Aurora Police Department reported that the collision occurred at the intersection of East 30th Avenue and East Parklane Drive around 5:18 p.m. Both the woman and her one-year-old were ejected from their Mercedes SUV and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The police indicated that the infant was not restrained during the accident, leading to the child being ejected from the vehicle. By 7:30 p.m., authorities confirmed that the deceased SUV driver was likely the child's mother. The infant, while in stable condition, still faced critical injuries. The police mentioned that the mother and child were leaving a family conflict at high speed when the collision with the bus occurred due to a swerve. Investigators are looking into the potential role of intoxication and speed in the crash. Additionally, three bus occupants were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, including the driver and two passengers, while four other passengers were unharmed. The area around East 30th Avenue between Scranton Street and Ursula Street was closed off as the inquiry progresses, with FOX31's Nate Belt present on the scene to provide updates.
