Fatal accident shuts down Marksheffel Road.
A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the intersection of North Carefree Circle and Marksheffel Road in Colorado Springs resulting in the loss of two lives. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) confirmed that a collision between a 2010 Ford F150 and a 2021 Kia Telluride occurred around 7:45 a.m., leading to the F150 catching fire after the crash. Unfortunately, the two occupants of the truck, a 42-year-old and a 19-year-old man, were unable to escape and were pronounced dead at the scene. The CSP is working on informing the families of the deceased before releasing their identities. It is suspected that the Ford F150 may have disregarded a red light. Following the collision, traffic signals at the intersection are not functioning, and southbound Marksheffel Rd remains closed for inquiries as of 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Motorists are advised to find different routes as there is no estimated time for the road to reopen. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has issued a warning about the serious accident, which has resulted in lane closures on both North Marksheffel Road and North Carefree Circle. CSPD is urging drivers to anticipate delays and choose alternate paths for their commute on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 28, while the Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
