Fatal accident on Interstate 70 close to city center
Indiana State Police are looking into a fatal accident on I-70 involving a semi-truck and a car on Friday. Several reports came in around 4:45 p.m. about a collision on I-70 heading west near mile marker 83. Witnesses said a semi spilled its load onto the road and the driver was unresponsive. Emergency responders found the unconscious driver, a man, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the car were fortunate to escape serious harm. The initial findings suggest the semi driver had to suddenly brake, causing the plywood load to come loose and strike the back of the truck when a vehicle unexpectedly changed lanes in front of it. All westbound lanes of I-70 were shut down for about an hour, but one lane has now been reopened.
