Fatal accident on I-96 near Grand Rapids
One person has tragically lost their life in a recent accident on I-96 near Grand Rapids as reported by state police. The incident occurred on the westbound lanes of the highway near the 3 Mile Road overpass in Grand Rapids Township. According to Michigan State Police, a vehicle collided with a semi-truck trailer, causing the vehicle's driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and hitting the overpass columns. Tragically, the driver of the vehicle passed away at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed at this time. Fortunately, the semi-truck driver emerged from the incident unharmed. Michigan State Police suspect that speed might have played a role in the crash, and further investigations are ongoing. Westbound I-96 was temporarily closed at Leonard Street during the response, but it was reopened around 2:45 p.m.
