Fatal accident on I-44 involving pedestrian and tractor-trailer

In Lawrence County, Missouri, a tragic incident occurred on Friday morning involving a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer on I-44, resulting in the death of one person, as reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP). The collision took place on eastbound I-44 near Mt. Vernon at mile marker 48. According to MSHP Troop D Sgt. Mike McClure, a passenger car traveling eastbound struck a deer on the road, prompting the vehicle to stop in the driving lane. Subsequently, one of the passengers exited the car to remove the deer from the roadway. Regrettably, a tractor-trailer approaching the scene attempted to avoid a collision by braking hard but ended up hitting the pedestrian and the vehicle. The tractor-trailer overturned in the collision and came to a rest on the south side of I-44. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews are currently at the crash site, and the victim's next of kin have been informed of the tragic outcome.
