Fatal Accident on I-264: Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Virginia State Police initially reported that the accident occurred on I-64 in Chesapeake but have since corrected it to state that it happened on I-264 in Portsmouth. A 32-year-old man named Justin D. Viera, a resident of Chesapeake, passed away in a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 264 at Greenwood Drive on Thursday evening. According to a statement from the state police, Viera was driving an Infinity M37X at a high speed in the eastbound lanes of I-264 when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road, and collided with a guardrail. This impact caused his car to become airborne and flip multiple times. Viera, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and trapped underneath it after it landed on him. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. State Police have determined that excessive speed and lack of seat belt usage were significant factors in the crash. Notification of Viera's passing has been provided to his family.
