Fatal Accident Near Oakland Coliseum
A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning on the I-880 Freeway in Oakland, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old woman following a collision between her Honda Fit and a Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck. The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash just before 3:45 a.m., which took place on the southbound side of the freeway near Hegenberger Road. Despite efforts from CHP officers and medical responders to assist the injured woman, she tragically succumbed to her injuries. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed to the public at this time. The driver of the Freightliner Cascadia cooperated with authorities, and the CHP confirmed that DUI was not a factor for the truck driver. Further investigation is underway to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. A section of the southbound I-880 was temporarily closed for investigation between 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
