Fatal accident involving woman hit by 2 vehicles after exiting her crashed car near Winona, per state patrol

Early Thursday morning, a 72-year-old woman from Winona, Minnesota was fatally hit by two vehicles after she crashed her car into a ditch and walked onto the roadway. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 61 and County Road 7 near LaMoille, approximately 10 miles southeast of Winona. The victim had been driving eastbound on County Road 7 when she veered into a ditch east of the northbound lanes of Highway 61. After exiting her vehicle, she was first struck by a pick-up truck and then hit by another vehicle. The pick-up driver, a 44-year-old man from Winona, remained at the scene uninjured. The second vehicle involved was not described in the State Patrol report. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the incident, which is currently under investigation. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the state has recorded 191 traffic-related fatalities so far this year.
