Fatal Accident Involving Tour Bus in Western New York
Five individuals tragically lost their lives when a tour bus carrying over 50 passengers veered off a highway in western New York. The incident occurred as the bus was returning to New York City from Niagara Falls. The bus, which was heading eastbound on the New York State Thruway near Pembroke, lost control, crossed the median, and ended up in a ditch. The passengers who passed away due to the crash have been identified by New York State Police. The cause of the accident is still being investigated, with mechanical failure and operator impairment ruled out as contributing factors. Multiple hospitals received and treated patients from the crash, with some in critical condition. The nationalities of most passengers on the bus include Indian, Chinese, and Filipino. Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences and stated that rescue efforts were ongoing.
