Fatal accident involving garbage truck and taxi worker
A tragic incident occurred early Friday morning on Poseidonos Avenue in southern Athens, where a 62-year-old woman lost her life in a collision involving a taxi and a garbage truck. The fatal accident took place before 7 a.m. when a taxi allegedly speeding and attempting to pass from the left collided with the garbage truck at the intersection of Poseidonos and Kalamakiou avenues, in the direction of Piraeus. The victim, a municipal sanitation worker, was on the back of the garbage truck in a position typically occupied by cleaning staff. Firefighters responded to the scene promptly and extracted the woman, but she was declared deceased shortly thereafter. The incident caused traffic disruptions with vehicles rerouted to the left lane during the emergency response. Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.
