Fatal Accident in Sumter County as Tree Falls on Car
In a rare and tragic incident in Sumter County, a man driving south on County Road 501 near Marsh Bend Trail in Wildwood was killed by a large tree that unexpectedly fell onto his moving vehicle. The vehicle was crushed, and the driver, who was the sole occupant, tragically lost his life in the accident. Officials responded to the scene and explained that the tree, which appeared healthy on the surface with a thick trunk, likely toppled due to its shallow root system during strong winds.
