Fatal accident in northeast Kansas
Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in a collision on Sunday evening in northeast Kansas. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on US Highway 24 at K-237 near Perry Lake in Jefferson County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Kona SUV driven by 33-year-old Shelby Copp failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling south on K-237 with two young girls aged 6 and 8. Copp's vehicle was then struck by a Chevy Suburban towing a boat, driven by a couple from Topeka, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of Copp and 66-year-old Connie Gould, a passenger in the Suburban. The two girls and the Suburban driver were transported to hospitals in serious condition, while two teens in another vehicle hit by the boat trailer were thankfully unharmed.
