Fatal accident in Lisbon as popular streetcar derails

Authorities in Lisbon, Portugal reported that a funicular streetcar accident resulted in the death of at least 15 individuals and left 18 others injured. The incident occurred on the Elevador da Glória route, a well-known attraction for both locals and tourists since its opening in 1885. Five of the injured are in critical condition, including a child. The cause of the crash is still unknown, and officials have not disclosed the nationalities of those affected. Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas expressed sorrow over the tragedy and declared three days of Municipal Mourning for the victims.
