Fatal 5-vehicle crash on I-8 claims life of La Mesa Police officer
A La Mesa Police officer and another individual tragically lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 8 in the College Area late Monday night. The collision, which occurred around 10:20 p.m. on eastbound I-8 near Waring Road, involved a driver who lost control of their vehicle, leading to a series of subsequent impacts. The La Mesa Police officer, identified as 25-year-old Lauren Craven, was struck by an oncoming vehicle while trying to assist at the scene. Several other individuals were injured and taken to the hospital. The eastbound lanes of I-8 between Fairmount Avenue and College Avenue were closed post the incident, with traffic being diverted to southbound Interstate 15.
