FAMU alumni die in Midtown collision; alleged DUI driver charged with murder

Two recent Florida A&M University (FAMU) graduates and fraternity brothers tragically lost their lives in a devastating car crash in Midtown Houston. The accident occurred early Saturday morning when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into their vehicle. The fraternity brothers, Ronnie Burns II and Jayden Fleming, were only 22 years old and had been in Houston to attend Texas Greek Picnic events as part of the FAMU chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The driver responsible for the crash, 21-year-old Rene Hernandez, is facing murder charges after hitting multiple vehicles and colliding with Burns and Fleming's car. The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and FAMU community are deeply affected by this loss, with the fraternity president expressing the pain felt by the families and the wider community. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the families of the victims. Hernandez, who sustained injuries in the crash, is currently in custody and will face charges once released from the hospital. The tragic incident has left friends, family, and fraternity members mourning the loss of Burns and Fleming, who had come to Houston for a weekend of cultural celebration and unity.
