Family sues town over police SUV theft leading to crash
A family is suing the Village of Bedford Park after a man allegedly stole a police car, leading to a crash that seriously injured two children. The incident occurred on March 19 on South Archer Road, as seen in surveillance footage. The man, Miguel Alvarado, drove off in the police SUV despite officers being nearby. After abandoning the vehicle on train tracks, he stole a UPS truck and collided with a car carrying a woman and her children. The lawsuit claims that Alvarado had been arrested earlier that day for other offenses. The father of the injured children expressed the need for lifelong care for them. Alvarado is facing criminal charges, but the Village of Bedford Park and its police department have not commented on the situation.
