Family reports arrest amid ongoing probe of deadly collision
The family of Mason Alexander has announced that someone has been arrested in connection with the fatal accident that took the life of the young football player. The family shared that a minor has been apprehended following the tragic incident on March 1. Mason, an 18-year-old who had graduated from Hamilton Southeastern High School and had secured a full football scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh, lost his life in the crash. The family disclosed during a Facebook Live broadcast that they were informed by the prosecutor's office of the minor being placed in a juvenile detention center. They indicated that the prosecutor intends to request the case to be transferred to adult court, although exact charges are currently unspecified. The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office has chosen not to comment on the matter due to its policy against discussing juvenile investigations. The collision took place on Florida Road near Geist Park when the underage driver of a 2016 white BMW attempted to overtake another vehicle, veered to avoid a car approaching from the opposite direction, and ultimately collided with a tree, resulting in Mason's death. In the wake of their loss, the family organized a demonstration calling for "Justice for Mason." Cousin Adrian Johnson expressed the family's anguish at the lack of closure and transparency regarding the tragic event by stating, "It’s hurting for the family to have to go through this with no one saying, ‘OK, this is what happened, this is how it happened.'" The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has acknowledged their involvement in the ongoing investigation, collaborating with the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
