Family of man who died in multi-vehicle crash in Northwest El Paso files lawsuit
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The family of the man who died in a multi-vehicle crash earlier this month in Northwest El Paso has filed a lawsuit against the driver, claiming that he was allegedly speeding and was distracted by an electronic device at the time of the crash, according to the law firm. The law firm, Kherkher Garcia, LLP, filed the petition on behalf of Aldo Jenkins' son, Scott Jenkins of Oklahoma City, who is listed as a plaintiff and is representing his father in the lawsuit. The lawsuit is alleging negligence and careless disregard on behalf of the driver, Alfredo Campos, who has been identified as a defendant in the lawsuit. The lawsuit says that Jenkins was a passenger in a tow truck that Campos was driving and was burned alive at the time of the crash, which happened on May 8. The lawsuit also claims that Campos was speeding, failed to keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and was distracted by an electronic device at the time of the crash. Campos' employer, Sheffield Towing Service, is also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit and is being held responsible for "failing to develop, implement, and enforce adequate safety policies regarding the operation of a tow truck and driver distraction from electronic devices," the law firm said. "The lawsuit contends Sheffield Towing Service failed to use ordinary care in hiring, training, and retaining a driver as a reasonable company utilizing commercial vehicles would and other acts determined to be negligent and grossly negligent as revealed through discovery," the law firm said. As we have previously reported, Jenkins died and several other people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on May 8 in Northwest El Paso, after a tow-truck hauling a semi-truck, crashed into multiple vehicles and caught fire, according to the El Paso Fire Department. Police said at the time of the crash that seven people were injured. El Paso Police say the preliminary investigation revealed that a white semi-truck and a black trailer became disabled at around 6 a.m. that day on Loop 375. A yellow tow truck was requested to tow both trailers off the roadway. The driver of the tow truck, who was later identified as Campos, was not able to stop as it approached the intersection of Loop 375 and North Desert Road. Jenkins was in the yellow tow truck at the time of the crash. The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and wants the jury to determine a "fair amount of compensation." The plaintiff is also asking for the defendants to preserve all evidence regarding the crash.
