Family of man killed by alleged drunk driver furious over reduced bond.
A family in Metro Detroit is grappling with increased pain after losing their loved one to a crash involving a suspected drunk driver. The accused individual is currently out on bond, which has intensified the family's anguish. The victim, Alex Tsatsos, was tragically killed in the crash on September 21, 2024, while en route to a birthday celebration. The suspected drunk driver, Eric Mandziuk, faces charges for OWI causing death and severe injury. Despite the seriousness of the charges, Mandziuk's bond was reduced, allowing him to post bail. The family finds this situation unjust, especially as Mandziuk's attorney is seeking removal of his GPS tether. The Tsatsos family and Alex's friends, including Eric Hackett who was also injured in the crash, are strongly advocating for stricter measures to be imposed on Mandziuk, given the devastating impact of his actions. The family has written letters to the judge urging for the GPS tether to remain and for Mandziuk's bond to be reconsidered. Their suffering is compounded by the fact that Mandziuk is currently not in jail despite the severity of the consequences of his actions. The next court date for Mandziuk is scheduled for June 23rd.
