Family in Green Country mourns after deadly crash before wedding.
Tristen Cherry, a graduate of Bixby, and his fiancée Katelyn Callahan, who graduated from Kiefer, met at a dinner party at the University of Oklahoma. They were together for three years before getting engaged in February 2024, with their wedding planned for May 31. However, tragedy struck on May 2 when they were involved in a fatal accident caused by a drunk driver going the wrong way on I-44 in Oklahoma City. Katelyn passed away in the accident, while Tristen suffered severe injuries, including 64 facial fractures, a compound femur fracture, a lacerated kidney, and lost teeth. After spending nearly three weeks in a coma and a month in an Oklahoma City hospital, Tristen is now back home recovering physically, although the emotional toll remains challenging. A fundraiser has been organized to support the families of the victims involved in the accident.
