Families honor victims of I-285 plane crash a decade later

Ten years have passed since a tragic plane crash on I-285 in DeKalb County claimed the lives of four individuals, causing immense grief for their families. Matt Bailey, the brother of one of the victims, expressed disbelief at the decade milestone, reflecting on how that fateful day turned their world upside down. The crash involved Jackie Kulzer, her fiancé Christopher Byrd, Byrd's father, brother, and their dog. The Piper PA-32 had just taken off from DeKalb Peachtree Airport on May 8, 2015, experiencing a mechanical issue that led to the fatal crash. Despite the tragedy, Bailey mentioned the overwhelming support his family received from people who vividly remember the incident, emphasizing the importance of treasuring loved ones and appreciating the time we have on earth. To honor the memories of the deceased, Bailey and his wife Maggie have established the Jackelyn K. & Christopher F. Byrd Memorial Scholarship for Ole Miss students, with plans to create a second scholarship for students of Christ the King primary school in Buckhead, Jackie's alma mater.
