Factors behind Jeffry Knight’s arrest post tragic boat collision
The Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have spent the last three months looking into a fatal Clearwater Ferry crash. They have now pressed charges against 62-year-old Pinellas County businessman Jeffry Knight and the Clearwater Ferry captain regarding the incident. Knight faces charges of leaving the scene of a boating accident involving death and serious bodily injury, alongside misdemeanor charges for not maintaining a safe speed and proper lookout, which led to the fatal accident. After evidence was gathered to charge Knight, he was found in the Bahamas but cooperated and flew back to the US, where he was apprehended at St. Pete/Clearwater International Airport. Following numerous interviews, digital crash reconstructions, and vessel tests, Knight was released on $40,000 bail after a brief jail stay. The Clearwater Ferry captain, Dennis Kimerer, was also charged for not having a working stern light during the crash. The investigation aims to bring closure and justice to all affected by this devastating event.
