FAA and Boeing confirm safety of fuel switch locks following Air India crash.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing have reassured that fuel cutoff switch locks on Boeing aircraft are safe, following scrutiny following the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 last month. In the crash on June 12 in Ahmedabad, 259 of the 260 people on board were killed, along with 19 people on the ground. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the crash was due to pilot error or mechanical failure. The FAA's notification stated that the fuel control switch design, similar across Boeing models, is not considered unsafe. The preliminary report of the crash revealed that the fuel switches were turned off shortly after takeoff, leading to confusion among pilots. The investigation is ongoing, and a more detailed report is expected later this year for further clarity on the crash's cause.
