Eyewitnesses describe the harrowing crash in York County.
Several days following a severe collision in Dover Township, York County, involving a BMW and a minivan, a bystander shares his account of the incident. According to legal documents, Brandon Lerew from Thomasville reportedly consumed heroin before the crash, believing he was being followed, which resulted in him hitting a total of six vehicles. Witness Jason Benkert, who observed the accident while returning home after picking up dinner, described the harrowing scene. Benkert expressed his initial shock at the crash, fearing for the lives lost due to the impact's severity. He explained how he heard the car accelerating before crashing into the minivan, which attempted to evade the collision but was unable to due to limited space. Lerew, under the influence of heroin, collided with the minivan before his car overturned, leading to injuries for both himself and another individual. After the crash, the community, including Benkert, promptly provided assistance to those involved. Benkert mentioned the quick response from individuals in the area, such as those from a nearby grocery store and homes, who rushed to aid the injured. Additionally, he and others helped to clear debris from the road to ensure emergency vehicles could navigate the scene safely. The status of the crash victims' injuries remains undisclosed, while Lerew faces charges for driving under the influence, including his third DUI offense.
