Exploring Fatal Crash at Bonneville Salt Flats Involving Land Speed Racer
Chris Raschke tragically passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, during the SpeedWeek event at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. His vehicle, Speed Demon III Streamliner, became airborne and crashed mid-race. Despite immediate medical attention, Raschke, a 60-year-old veteran driver, succumbed to his injuries. Raschke had been a vital member of the Speed Demon Racing team for over a decade and served as the director of sales and marketing at Automotive Racing Products. The incident, where Raschke was attempting to break a land speed record and crashed at a speed of 300 mph, is under investigation by the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) and the Tooele County Sheriff's Office. His loss has deeply impacted the racing community, and he will be dearly missed. His vehicle was initially designated for the late land speed racer George Poteet, who passed away last year. Raschke raced in honor of Poteet's legacy to continue setting new records for the Speed Demon team. Chris Raschke is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, including his granddaughter Renley Kay Craig, born in February 2024.
