Exclusive: Mother speaks out after fatal Fort Myers crash, seeks justice for daughter

The teenager accused of a 17-year-old's death is out of jail. Jaciey Hogan was killed in a car crash on Gladiolus Drive last month.Florida Highway Patrol says the teen driving her, Issac Sales, ran a red light while heading to South Fort Myers High School.Jaciey's mother, Trisha Johnson, told Gulf Coast News nearly a week after Sales' arrest that this past month has been the hardest month of her life. She is still grieving the loss of her daughter. "Her last message to me was asking me to plug your bike in because she had to work that night," said Johnson. Seventeen years of raising her daughter as a single mother, gone in a matter of seconds. "That's what made our bond so amazing was the fact that we grew up together, but now I'm left here without my best friend, and that's the hard part," she added.Gulf Coast News obtained new video of the moments before the deadly crash. State troopers say Sales was driving 85-87 mph in a 45-mph zone. Sales and Hogan weren't wearing a seatbelt when they crashed into another car; that driver was injured as well. Johnson felt relieved when hearing Sales was arrested last week after being discharged from the hospital, she wasn't happy that his bond wasn't higher. "I was thankful I thought I could finally rest, that I could finally have some justice. I thought I finally my family had some comfort, but the bail is $6,000 for homicide," Johnson said. Johnson constantly told her daughter the roads were dangerous. "We're normalized to people dying every day and it's not normal, too many people die here, and we need to stop it," Johnson told Gulf Coast News. This mother is now looking for justice and wants people to slow down and take their time while driving. "That's very heartbreaking for a mom to see, because I can remember the 12 minutes that I brought her into this world and all the dreams that I had for her in this. This wasn't one of them," she said. Sales is charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving and property damage. He is scheduled to appear in circuit court on May 12.DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more.
