Exclusive interview with witness of accident on Royal Caribbean water slide.

Erica Hunt, along with her husband and 18-year-old son, experienced a frightening incident while near the Frightening Bolt waterslide on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas on August 7. They heard a loud popping sound, leading them to witness an acrylic glass panel shattering on the slide. Water flooded the deck, causing panic among passengers and crew who rushed to clear the area. Videos shared on TikTok captured the chaos. Royal Caribbean confirmed an injury and closed the ride for the remainder of the cruise. Hunt and her family were concerned for their younger son, who was in line for the waterslide and quickly rushed to locate him, fearing for his safety. After reuniting with her son, they learned of the injured passenger being taken away in a wheelchair. Despite her dissatisfaction with the lack of communication regarding the incident from the cruise line, another passenger Marianne Karlsen praised the staff's handling of the situation. Hunt, typically a Disney cruise loyalist, chose to try Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas for the first time. The voyage began on August 2 and is set to visit various islands before returning to Miami on August 9. Hunt is currently on the cruise with her family, including her 90-year-old grandmother, who had a colorful reaction upon hearing about the waterslide incident.
