Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist agrees to plea deal in deadly accident
Josh Klinghoffer, the former guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has reached a plea deal to avoid imprisonment after being involved in a fatal accident in Alhambra, California, last March. Klinghoffer, 45, entered a plea of no contest to a misdemeanor of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in an Alhambra court last week. As part of the agreement, he received one year of informal probation and 60 days of community service. The incident occurred when Klinghoffer struck and tragically killed a pedestrian, 47-year-old Israel Sanchez, while driving a 2022 GMC Yukon. Despite the unfortunate outcome, Klinghoffer immediately stopped and contacted emergency services. Sanchez passed away hours later due to severe head injuries. Klinghoffer is also facing a lawsuit for wrongful death and negligence from Ashley Sanchez, the victim's daughter. Following his tenure with the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019, Klinghoffer briefly played with Pearl Jam and Jane's Addiction after departing from the band upon John Frusciante's return.
