Ex-LAPD officer sentenced to 15 years for deadly drunk driving accident in Whittier
A former LAPD officer, Edgar Verduzco, received a sentence of 15 years to life last Friday for causing a drunk-driving accident in 2017 that resulted in the tragic deaths of members of a family in Whittier. Verduzco, now 35, had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges and driving-related felonies. The incident occurred while he was off-duty, driving at an excessive speed under the influence of alcohol on the 605 Freeway. The collision caused a vehicle to ignite, fatally injuring Maribel Davila, Mario Davila, and their son Oscar Davila, who were owners of a salon and barbershop. Verduzco, who was 27 years old at the time of the crash, was ultimately held accountable for his actions, serving as a reminder of the severe consequences of driving while intoxicated.
