Erie Grieves: 12-Year-Old Kollin Showalter's Body Found Following Train Tragedy
The search for 12-year-old Kollin Showalter has come to a tragic end, as his body was discovered on Sunday, nearly five days after he and 16-year-old Arthur Pollreis were struck and killed by a Union Pacific train on a railroad bridge over the Neosho River. The extensive search efforts that captured the attention and support of Neosho County and beyond concluded with the find. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks reported a potential sighting of Showalter's body near the KG&E Dam in Labette County, about 20 miles from the accident site. Showalter's body was confirmed, recovered, and given to the Neosho County Coroner for examination. The devastating incident occurred on June 18 when Showalter and Pollreis were struck by a train on the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge near Erie. The accident claimed both lives, with Pollreis' body recovered soon after. Showalter's absence led to a large-scale search effort involving various methods such as drones, planes, boats, and K9 units. The active search was suspended due to hazardous water conditions, but search operations continued until Showalter's body was found. A fund called the "Kollin Showalter and Arthur Pollreis Fund" has been established to aid the families of the two boys. The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, with early findings suggesting no foul play.
