Engine ejected in rollover crash near frozen yogurt shop

Early on a Thursday morning in Newport Beach, a serious rollover crash caused a vehicle to break apart, ejecting its engine onto the sidewalk and scattering wreckage near a frozen yogurt shop. Video from KTLA revealed a dark SUV turned on its side on East Coast Highway near Carnation Avenue, with a smashed roof and broken glass strewn across the road. The SUV ended up under the red-and-white awning of Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt, narrowly avoiding a direct hit on the shop. The impact was so powerful that it separated the engine from the vehicle and sent it several feet away by a trash can near the business. Although the store's front was spared, the incident left behind shattered windows, damaged signage, and tears in the awning. Emergency responders from the Newport Beach Fire Department rushed to the scene shortly after the crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. According to witnesses, one individual received on-site medical attention and was later transported to a nearby hospital, although officials have not confirmed this yet. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and Newport Beach Police Department has been contacted by KTLA for further details.
