Enfield Police address allegations following traffic accident investigation
ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) - The Enfield Police Department is responding to public concerns after a social media post alleged racial discrimination by an officer during the investigation of a minor traffic accident on Friday. According to a statement from the department, the post, made on the Enfield Open Forum, claimed that an individual involved in the accident was treated poorly due to their race. In response, agency supervisors immediately reviewed the investigating officer’s body-worn camera footage. The department stated that the video showed the officer professionally conducting the investigation, gathering consistent accounts from all parties involved. During the process, a female bystander, not directly involved in the crash, repeatedly approached the officer, stepping in front of him as he examined minor damage on one of the vehicles. For safety and to allow the investigation to proceed uninterrupted, the officer politely asked the bystander to step back. Later, the officer again asked the woman not to get involved after she began arguing with another party at the scene. According to the footage, the officer maintained a professional tone throughout the encounter and continued to answer questions from the accident participants, providing multiple explanations regarding the observed damage. “At no point in the video footage did the officer cut off any of the involved parties from voicing any statement,” the department said. “There is absolutely no basis for any claims or assertions of racism.” The Enfield Police Department emphasized its commitment to professionalism and positive community relations and invited any concerned parties to meet with an agency supervisor to review the body camera footage directly. The investigation into the accident itself remains ongoing.
