Employee killed in accident at Stillwater Mine identified as Laurel man
An employee at the Sibanye-Stillwater Mine in Columbus was tragically killed in an accident, identified as 50-year-old Brian Hanson from Laurel. The incident, described as an electrical accident, resulted in Hanson's death being attributed to electrocution by the Stillwater County Sheriff's Office. The Montana State Crime Lab will further investigate the incident. The mine official reported that the accident occurred while Hanson was conducting routine maintenance on the mine's east side, leading to an immediate shutdown of operations. Although a small team has resumed work at the mine, a full timeline for operations to resume has not been specified. Both the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration and local authorities are investigating the incident.
