Elderly woman dies in collision after going past stop sign

An elderly woman, aged 86, passed away on Sunday afternoon following a traffic accident involving two vehicles in Long Beach. The collision occurred at the junction of Studebaker Road and Los Santos Drive approximately at 2:10 p.m. Long Beach Police Department officers arrived at the scene to discover the Toyota Corolla driver, the elderly woman, with severe injuries. Unfortunately, she was declared deceased on-site by paramedics. According to traffic investigators, it seems the woman was traveling on Los Santos Drive, but failed to stop at the stop sign, proceeding into oncoming traffic on Studebaker Road. This led to a collision between her vehicle and a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck in the intersection. The pickup driver, a 45-year-old resident of Long Beach, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. They sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident, although initial findings suggest that speed, impairment, or distracted driving were not contributing factors. The identity of the deceased woman is being withheld until her family is informed. Anyone with information regarding the accident is encouraged to reach out to LBPD Detective Kevin Johansen at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online or by calling 800-222-8477.
