UPDATE as of Sept. 21 at 11:50 a.m: A report by the Kentucky State Police indicates that Montgomery County Sheriff David Charles was struck by a Kia Telluride while responding to a two-vehicle crash. Sheriff Charles and the individuals in the Kia were transported to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. The incident occurred while the sheriff was outside of his vehicle. Authorities anticipate reopening the road soon. Earlier, the eastbound lanes of I-64 were closed near the 113-mile marker following an accident involving Sheriff Charles. Law enforcement is currently present at the scene, although no specifics about the crash have been disclosed yet. Our team at LEX 18 witnessed a sheriff's vehicle with noticeable damage.
