Early morning crash closes all lanes on I-85 South in Oconee Co.
OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- A crash on Interstate 85 Wednesday morning has caused an oil spill, closing all southbound lanes in Oconee County. The SC Department of Transportation reported that the crash occurred in the southbound lanes during the early hours at Exit 1-South Carolina 11-Walhalla, causing a significant backup for miles at the SC/GA state line. The SC Highway Patrol told 7NEWS a car hauler overturned against a guardrail, causing oil to spill on the bridge into Lake Hartwell. HAZMAT has responded to the scene. Congestion remains across the entire interstate due to traffic being diverted. Troopers with the SC Highway Patrol reported that a detour is in place for southbound traffic. Drivers are recommended to do the following once they arrive at Exit 1:
