DUI driver slams into police car on the scene of a fatal crash in Orange County

While on the scene of a deadly crash investigation in Orange County, a police car was rammed into by an intoxicated driver on Sunday night. The Fountain Valley Police Department told KTLA on Monday that officers were first sent to the intersection of Warner Avenue and Los Jardines Street at 10:30 p.m. in response to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian that turned fatal. Details on the initial investigation are limited, but unconfirmed reports from the stringer service County News said two pedestrians were crossing the street when one of them was struck by a sedan and rushed to a nearby hospital, but did not survive. As of Monday evening, officials have not revealed the victim’s identity. Police said the driver in the fatal crash was still being investigated when, at around 11:10 p.m., a confirmed DUI driver slammed into one of the cruisers at the scene. According to County News, the police car had its lights activated when it was struck. The DUI suspect was taken into custody and the Fountain Valley PD said that while no officers were injured, the unit that was hit is now out of service.
