DUI charge dropped for semi truck driver in fatal Southern California collision

Following negative toxicology reports, the semi-truck driver involved in the fatal crash on the 10 Freeway in Ontario will no longer face a felony DUI charge. Instead, the driver, Jashanpreet Singh, 21, will now be charged with gross negligence. The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office announced that the toxicology report showed no presence of substances in Singh's blood at the time of testing. As a result, the felony DUI charge has been dropped. Singh faces amended charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and reckless driving on a highway causing injury. Investigations found that Singh failed to stop his truck before colliding with another vehicle on the freeway. Singh remains in custody without bail. His immigration and legal employment status are under scrutiny by state and federal authorities. The Department of Homeland Security claims Singh is an undocumented immigrant who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in 2022. However, California transportation officials argue that Singh had legal employment authorization documents approved by the federal government, which allowed him to obtain a REAL ID confirming his legal status. In light of these developments, the prosecution will now focus on proving gross negligence on the part of Singh.
