Drunk driver charged with murder in Houston crash that leaves 2 dead

Ronnie Burns' parents had recently spoken to their son on Thursday, when he was debating whether or not to attend a fraternity picnic in Houston. Eventually, Ronnie decided to go, but tragically, his parents would later find out that he had been killed by an alleged drunk driver. In the early hours of Saturday morning, Kimberly and Ronnie Burns received a distressing alert on their cell phone informing them that their son had been in a car accident. Ronnie, a recent graduate of Florida A&M University, had just started working in Atlanta and had made the last-minute decision to drive to Houston with a fraternity brother for the Texas Greek Picnic. However, his life was cut short when his car was hit by a drunk driver, causing it to catch fire and resulting in Ronnie's and his friend's death. The Burns family shared their heartbreaking experience and the shock of losing their son, emphasizing the outpouring of support from their community. Despite the immense pain, they expressed forgiveness towards the driver responsible and emphasized their son's legacy of hard work and enjoyment of life. The driver, Rene Hernandez, faces two counts of murder, with his court date scheduled for August 21.
