Driver with ankle monitor caused deadly crash in Colorado canyon
The Colorado State Patrol is currently looking into a tragic accident that occurred in Clear Creek Canyon. A man attempting to evade Clear Creek County deputies was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Tuesday, resulting in the death of an innocent driver. The suspect also perished in the incident. Deputies had initially tried to stop the suspect near the junction of Highway 40 and Highway 6. The suspect's reckless actions, including driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 70, led to the crash on Highway 6 just east of the interstate. The victim, identified as 51-year-old Steven Ainsworth from Arvada, tragically lost his life in the collision, with his vehicle ending up overturned in Clear Creek. The individual responsible for the crash was identified as Christopher Moore, a repeat offender under probation being monitored by a GPS ankle device. Following the crash, a distressed deputy from the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office called for immediate assistance, noting the severity of the situation. Moore's criminal history includes charges related to theft, drug offenses, and an escape attempt, with his most recent arrest for car theft in Arapahoe County. Authorities have linked Moore to numerous vehicle break-ins across Summit County, Eagle County, and Georgetown. Sergeant Ivan Alavardo highlighted that the circumstances leading to the tragedy will be thoroughly investigated by the Colorado State Patrol, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive examination of events. A young woman, aged 27, who was a passenger in Moore's vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office plans to hold a press conference on Thursday morning to disclose additional information regarding their pursuit of Moore and the incident.
