Driver who fled police custody after fatal Inkster car crash is now facing charges

A man from Metro Detroit, who was involved in a fatal crash leading to the death of a Garden City man, is now facing additional charges after managing to escape police custody. Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has revealed that Dewayne Hollingsworth, 47, from Wayne, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, causing death due to a moving violation, evading lawful custody, and driving with a suspended license. Hollingsworth was issued a $100,000 bond. The initial incident occurred on September 2 when Hollingsworth was involved in a crash with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of 44-year-old Nicholas Cogswell from Garden City. Allegations suggest that Hollingsworth failed to yield while exiting a parking lot, colliding with Cogswell. Following his arrest at the scene, it was discovered that Hollingsworth was an absconder on parole for a robbery conviction. On September 4, Hollingsworth managed to escape police custody at Garden City Hospital but was later apprehended by local authorities near a CVS store. Witnesses reported seeing him asking for help from customers and attempting to secure a ride home. Hollingsworth is scheduled for his next court appearance on September 17.
