Driver who caused fatal Elk Grove crash was fleeing hit-and-run, police say
(FOX40.COM) — After a crash that caused the death of a 78-year-old Elk Grove resident, police say the woman who survived was fleeing a hit-and-run. That woman, the driver of a silver Honda Accord, was also involved in a minor hit-and-run with a different vehicle on Elk Grove Boulevard before the fatal crash, Elk Grove police said in a news release. Traffic detectives believe alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, officers arrived on scene on Elk Grove Boulevard at Stonelake Drive to see a two car collision involving a silver Honda Accord and a white Honda Accord. The silver vehicle was overturned on its side and the white vehicle had major damage to the driver’s side, windshield and roof. Preliminary investigation has led officials to believe that the white Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Elk Grove Boulevard approaching Stonelake Drive, when the silver Honda Accord traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes. The silver vehicle struck the center median, going airborne before colliding head-on with the white vehicle. The sole occupant of the white Honda Accord sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the silver Honda Accord, a 51-year-old woman from Sacramento, was transported to a hospital after receiving multiple serious injuries, according to officials. At this time, there has been no arrest made becausethe driver of the silver vehicle remains hospitalized, receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, but the investigation remains active.
